Plant Update and Work Day

Since my post on the DIY terrarium a few months ago, the Ceropegia Woodii has grown very quickly. As you can see below, the first picture is how it looks now and the second is what it looked like when I first planted it. I highly recommend this plant to beginners since it is not only beautiful, but easy to take care of and fast growing.

My hanging terrariums are doing quite well also. I cut a few clippings from the Woodii plant above and I'm going to see how they do in the hanging planter.

These are my marimo! Aren't they cute!? If you haven't heard of marimo, they are underwater moss (actually algae) balls that grow in lakes in Japan and Sweden. They bounce around in their tank! They will float to the top to get more light during the day time and then sink back down in the evening. I have two that I keep in a glass half-sphere hanging on the wall.

I spent a good part of the day creating new jewelry designs for Woodii. Below you can see my elegant bed workshop and some pieces I am currently working on.

Mother's Day and Succulents

I had a great day outside, enjoying the lovely sunny weather! I walked dow to the Pike Place market to do a little mother's day shopping and was really amazed at how HUGE the market is...I never realized how maze-like it is with all the different levels and little nooks. After stopping in almost every single tiny shop, I gathered a few small things to send to my mom....I'm kind of hoping she won't read this until she gets the package. Unfortunately, I forgot to take pictures before I excitedly wrapped everything up.

  • heart shaped tea infuser
  • 3 bulk bags of loose leaf tea (lychee rose, sage and lemon, as well as huckleberry) made in Seattle
  • a microminiature, Russian glass, hand painted cat (don't ask me why, it was just so tiny and cute!)
  • some classic Haribo roulette gummies (which I ate before I got home-sorry mom!)
  • a key lime, lavender and bergamot soap wrapped in a lovely floral fabric scrap (this one I picked up at Anthropologie on my walk home)

Needless to say, the package smelled really good! I hope she enjoys all the little trinkets! What did you get for you mom for mother's day?

I also wanted to share these insanely realistic succulent cupcakes I've been spotting pictures of around the internet. There is a very detailed DIY on the Pixel Whisk Blog that explains exactly how they made them and somehow makes it look really easy. Aren't they awesome?

Vintage Clothing Sale

I've just finished marking down all the vintage clothing in the shop for summer! There are lots of cute dresses and short sleeve blouses, all perfect for the upcoming seasons. SO much cute stuff; I'm tempted to keep something for myself..hehe. Check it out before it's all gone :)

In addition to this news, Etsy has recently added a (long overdue) credit card payment option instead of only allowing payments though paypal! I'm sure a plenty of people have wondered why it took them so long to add such a simple feature. Me too.

Spring Inspiration

While shopping around town and browsing the internet the past few days, I've come across some beautiful spring items I would love to own (but probably never will ha)!  Here's a little recap of a few of the things!

Beach Tent by Anthropologie (of course it's only $8,998)

On a side note: I came across this lovely picture of Arista wearing a Woodii necklace! If anyone has any pictures of themselves sporting some Woodii, lemme know and I'll link back to your blog!

Thanks Arista!

New Pastels

Here's a couple new necklaces for spring! I'm really loving pastel beadwork with pearls and little stones right now. The weather has been amazing the past few days here in Seattle and I'm looking forward to a beautiful summer.

More to come soon!

Northwest Book Tour

"The Homeland of Pure Joy, maybeparade’s first official publication, has given all involved such an opportunity. From the moment William Dewey shared the manuscript of his third novel, maybeparade has grown into a community of able-handed and multi-talented individuals. We are now entering into the production phase and will be printing and binding the books locally. Thus, it is with great enthusiasm that we hope to bring our community to yours and open up the celebration of maybeparade’s official inauguration with a book launch and regional book tour." -from the 'The Homeland of Pure Joy' by William Dewey Kickstarter page

Remember the New Zealand plant illustration I made a couple weeks ago in order to help support a new book and independant press? Well,The Kickstarter is up and running for the publication and book tour of The Homeland of Pure Joy by William Dewey! I encourage everyone to check out the Kickstarter as well as Maybeparade, which is run by my good friend Clare in Portland. Also, if the tour is coming to a city near you, I would suggest stopping by. They will be visiting Portland, Seattle, Olympia, and Denver and I'll definitely be attending the Seattle reading at Elliott Bay. Stay tuned or visit the facebook page for more updates.

A Few New Terrarium Necklaces

There's nothing too eventful going on today. I updated the shop with some new little glass orbs as well as some new varieties of the existing styles. The rest of the day I'm going to be studying and brushing up on my classic cocktail knowledge, going to the gym, then hopefully heading downtown to the Pike Place Market!

New Drawing by Courtney Matzke

I just finished this plant drawing to help promote a new book coming out on my friend Clare's small press, MaybeparadeThe Homeland of Pure Joy, a novel by William Dewey, is set in New Zealand, so naturally, the plants depicted are native to the country. The drawing will be given away to one of the lucky people that helps raise funds for the publication. Post card prints will also be made! I will keep everyone updated with more info in the upcoming weeks.

The plants featured include: Asplenium bulbiferum, Astelia fragrans, Seleranthus uniflorous, and Acaena microphylla.

New Chunky Terrarium Necklace

I've just finished some new necklaces for the shop! The first one I'm going to share is my favorite! It's a large and chunky glass vial terrarium necklace. It's about 5 times the size of the smaller ones and has crystals at the top so it will definitely stand out.

Collections

I've been coming across some beautiful pictures of collections lately so I though I would share some. I love the arrangement of all of these and all the natural items used. I've also been working on some new and very different necklaces for the shop which will be coming out in the near future. I'll post a sneak peak soon!
