Dyeing Moss

Today I did a some experimenting with preserving and dyeing moss. I've been using different types of mosses and dyes to see which get the best results. 

This reindeer moss started out white...now it's a nice natural green!

Resin Casting in Molds

Today I did some sample resin casting to see how it came out:

The next step is to incorporate a heat gun to get rid of the few tiny bubbles left. The hair dryer doesn't work well since it blows out too much air. That will be next week's project. 

Midnight Moss Frosted Glass Terrarium Necklace

This is the latest piece I've been working on. The moss is preserved and hand dyed a very rich and dark green. I have been experimenting with different ways of frosting portions of the glass vials to produce a hazy or foggy effect.

Creating the Quilt: part 2 and a New Book

Today, as a follow up to Creating the Quilt Part 1, I have sewed together the columns and ironed all the seams. I still have a long way to go so expect more posts in the future.

Also, here's another awesome book I received for Christmas. The pictures beautifully capture the succulents all over the world in their natural environments rather than in gardens or pots. This book will come in handy as a reference guide whenever I create or maintain desert terrariums.
